The making of Violoncello

Sculpting a cellist is an amazing education in music appreciation. My intention is to show that music plays the musician.

My sculpture of a young cellist, playing a solo in "Concert," was inspired by this video shared with me in 2012 by acclaimed composer Carman Moore.  Only 8 years

old,  Ifetayo Ali-Landing's ability, beauty, youth and poise captivated me immediately.

I viewed a number of Ali-Landing's early solo performances while composing the sculpture, taking inspiration from this remarkable solo she performed at the age of 6!

Ultimately, the final form and style of the piece was determined by this video, a lovely performance of Camille Saint-Saens' Cello Concerto No. 1, 1st Movement.  Ifetayo Ali-Landing is 10 years old, playing beautifully with exquisite command of her instrument.
